August Favourites in UK 2019

Some ideas of what's on in Glasgow, Southampton and Cambridge for our members living in these areas.

The Luna Kids Cinema is the first ever UK open air cinema designed for kids. This open air cinema has 8 locations throughout the UK. There are locations in Edinburgh, Herts, Leeds, Glasgow, Kent, Cheshire, Hampton Court Palace, and Bath. At the venue, there is a full bar on-site suited for all ages. The kids bar offers a range of soft drinks, healthy juices, and water. The big kids bar will have everything from prosecco and wine to teas and coffees. Meadowland and Prestige Doughnuts will be on-site for people interested in food. Some movies you can expect to see are: The Lego Movie 2, Coco, Dumbo, Greatest Showman, Harry Potter, Moana, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Mary Poppins Returns, Incredibles 2, and more.

Glasgow:

Pride Glasgow's annual pride event is the largest celebration of pride in Scotland. Thousands come to celebrate LGBT equality. This event has run annually ever since 2012. Pride Glasgow will be happening the 17th-18th August.


Eco Printing in Woodlands is a community event happening in Glasgow. Over several months, the community comes together to Eco print the botanicals growing in the garden. This natural process creates beautiful prints onto cloth or paper. This is a 3 hour event that allows people to join the afternoon fun and learn the basics, produce a piece of natural artwork, and share a coffee and cake.




The successful and legendary rock n' roll musical will be returning to the UK after a sell-out worldwide tour. The Glasgow King's Theatre will be hosting this production from 12th-18th August. Don't miss out on Sweet Transvestite, Damn it Janet, and Time Warp.

2nd August- 4th August.

This 3-day festival will have numerous artists per day. Friday's headliner is Groove Amanda, Saturday's headliner is Ms. Lauryn Hill, and Sunday's headliner is Hot Chip.

3rd August

In Braehead Arena, Coloursfest will be coming 3rd August for a full day of fun and music. This will be Coloursfest's 18th year of providing entertainment for the audience. There are five stages that attendees can choose from. There are a variety of different music genres for attendees to enjoy.

Southampton:

19th-23rd August

The Waterside Art Group Exhibition is coming to the Community Centre in Southampton. The Waterside Art Group is a diverse group of local artists who meet together to paint and draw. There will be painting and cards for sale at the event. The art exhibition will be at the Community Centre from 19th-23rd August. Free admission and the minimum age is 18.

A great new restaurant that brings history and Italian food. Supermarine was a company that built seaplanes. The Supermarine Southampton was a 1920's British flying boat. This restaurant serves all things pizza and pasta. Everything is fresh and homemade. It is the perfect place to unwind and take in the stunning views of the water.

19th - 21st August

Returning this summer, Sound Pop Academy is bringing an inclusive and inspiring workshop. This three day immersive workshop, allows participants to explore the latest pop songs in a new way. Participants will learn harmonies, choreography, and singing skills. At the end of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to perform in front of their family and friends. All abilities are welcomes for ages 7-17.

Cambridge:

16th August

The ICE Summer Festival & Open Air Cinema will be screening Bohemian Rhapsody. This cinematic experience will be under the stars in the Gardens of Madingley Hall. Bohemian Rhapsody is about the band, Queen, and the lead singer, Freddie Mercury.

10th August

This one day workshop allows participants the chance to create their own pottery piece in the studio. Participants will get the chance to view the studio's collection of pottery as well. In the morning, there will be a private tour of the House of Kettle Yard, following tea and coffee. After the scheduled events, the participants can choose two of their pieces for glaze firing. This is an all day event opened for all abilities.

Kettle Yard will be hosting free, drop-in drawing activities for participants to join in on. The self-led drawing activities are designed to develop your drawing skills. You have the choice to pop in for 5 minute or stay all afternoon. Drawing activities are suitable for all ages and abilities. The Drop-In Drawing will go from 24th-26th August.
