UK July FOCUS Favourites

We are delighted to suggest a few things to do in different areas of the UK.

Glasgow:

1st July

The seven time Grammy winner, Gladys Knight, will be performing at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall for two nights. Gladys Knight has been honoured with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She started her career in 1950s when she performed with the Pips. Over the years, she has recorded more than 40 albums and enjoyed No.1 hits in several different genres. During this concert, you can witness her sing her classic hits: Midnight Train to Georgia, License to Kill, The Way We Were, Baby Don’t Change Your Mind, You’re The Best Thing (That Ever Happened to Me), plus more from her latest album, Where My Heart Belongs.

12-14 July

The TRNSMT festival features artists from around the world. This is a three day festival taking place within the city’s Glasgow Green. Who doesn’t love a weekend filled with music and food. There will be a variety of food options available around the facility. On the main stage, you can expect headlines from Stormzy, Catfish, the Bottlemen, and George Ezra. There are two stages for participants to engage with. TRNSMT offers ticket packages, for instance: 1 day pass is £59.50, 2 Day is £105, and 3 day is £155. They also offer VIP passes.

1st July- 9th August

Newlands offers a top tennis venue with expert coaching for children of all ages and abilities. This facility is the only venue in Southside that offers indoor and outdoor facilities, so weather will never be an issue. This tennis camp is flexible with attendance. Kids can attend daily or weekly and it is suitable for kids of all abilities from age 4+. These camps are led by fully qualified and licensed coaches. The camp runs from 1st July 2019 to 9th August 2019. This 6 week camp is £30 per day and £120 per week. Newlands Tennis Club Camp has a #FUNFRIDAY with prizes, certificates, and pizza for lunch.

1st July- 9th August

This hilarious and touching musical comedy is coming to King’s Theatre Glasgow in July. They are performing 1 July 2019 to 6th July 2019. This musical was based on the Oscar winning film. The book is by James Lapine and the music and lyrics are by William Finn. The musical is about the Hoover family who face a few troubles. The young daughter, Olive, has her mind set on winning the Little Miss Sunshine beauty contest. After they receive an invitation, the Hoover family piles into a yellow camper van. Will they be able to survive the 800-mile trip from New Mexico to California? This modern classic illustrates the quirks of every family, the potholes in every road, and the power of overcoming differences. This musical opens in London with a brand new production, directed by Arcola Artistic Director Mehmet Ergen. After, the will take this musical on the road for a national tour.

1st July- 9th August

The Club Cruising Club Dingy Section has been based at Bardowie Loch for nearly 80 years. The mission for this club is to provide members with the opportunity to learn to sail and race. Over the summer holidays, they are holding RYA Dinghy Sailing Courses at Bardowie. In the summer, they run a successful summer school that welcomes both beginners and people looking to improve. It starts July 1st to 9th August 2019. The camp requires a £110 per week plus membership.

1st July- 15th August

The British Youth IT College offers summer camps for children. Why should my kid do this you ask? The BYITC Summer camp will be fun, stress free, academic benefits, and improves teamwork. Children are eligible for the camp if they are 6-14 years old. There will be separate classes for 6-9 year olds and 9-14 year olds. The Summer Boot Camp runs from 1st July-15th August. The day will start at 9 AM and end at 5 PM. There will be a 1 hour break for lunch from 12 PM- 1 PM. The day will consist of three main studies: robotics, engineering, and game development. The weekly cost for this summer camp is £249, there is an early bird discount available.

The Clydeside is the first single malt distillery in Glasgow for over 100 years. You have the opportunity to book a tour to learn about their story, the Glasgow history, witness the craftsmen distil Clydeside new make spirit by hand, and participate in a whisky tasting. The cost of this tour is about £15 pounds. This is an hour long tour that does not allow more than 20 people on the tour at a time. Clydeside also offers a chocolate & whisky tour and a distillery managed tour. The price, length of tour and the amount of people allowed on the tour are different for all three tours offered, so please check with them.

The Early Evening Summer Stroll offers individuals the opportunity to join an evening health walk in Castlemilk Park. This is a free event that does not require booking. They do this evening walk in the months of April, May, June, July, & August. The evening stroll from 6-8pm allows for participants to discover wildlife, woodlands, surrounding areas, waterfalls, and more.

Northampton:

7 July

In Delapre Abbey from 11 am - 4 pm, this annual, two day festival of living history will return on 6th July 2019. Previously, they have focused on the medieval Battle of Northampton, but for the very first time this year, they will be celebrating all of British history. There will be re-enactment groups, arena displays, living history encampments, market stalls, and hands on fun for all ages. Individuals under the age of 18 can go for free on all pre-booked tickets. One day entry tickets are £10 and two day entry tickets are £15.

6-7 July

The Northampton Town Festival is back in July 2019 for its 4th year running. Packed with food stalls, live music, hot air balloons, local traders and a giant funfair, the town festival is an exciting weekend for the whole family. One of the biggest attractions is the amazing hot air balloons. For those who have never taken a ballon flight, book an hour flight in a virgin balloon. The Northampton Town Festival will take place across two areas on the Racecourse and is totally free.


13th July

The Spinney Theatre in Northampton is featuring the Greatest Showman Sing-Along. This event will be held on Saturday, 13th July from 6 pm- 8 pm. This 2 hour event requires fancy dress and full audience participation is encouraged. All proceeds for this event will go to ActionAid to fund a project to build a school in Rwanda. There is no age requirement for this event. The seats are first come, first served. There will be refreshments and snacks available in the foyer an hour prior to the show. The Greatest Showman is an American musical drama film based on P.T. Barnum and his circus. This movie is perfect for families.


20th July

The Westone Major Hotel is having a Michael Jackson Tribute Night. This event is on Saturday, 20th July from 9:30 pm - 11:45 pm. This event requires participants to be 18 or over. The tribute show will be electrifying and representing the legend with pride, respect, and admiration. The performer will carry out Michael Jackson through dazzling costumes, stunning choreography, MJ’s mannerisms, trademark vocals, and more to captivate the audience. This show will surely have it all and it is always a sell-out, so it is important to book early. A standard ticket is £16 and an early bird ticket is £14. There are more tribute nights featured at the Westone Major Hotel if interested.



Manchester

27-28 July

FESTWICH is the UK’s biggest free tribute festival. This festival has been going on for only 7 years, this year will be their 8th festival. The festival keeps changing and getting better. This is a free tribute festival honouring the best tribute bands on the planet. This festival is from 27 July 2019- 28 July 2019 and goes from 11:30 AM- 10:00 PM. There are no tickets at the gate, this festival requires advance tickets only. Individuals under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Their mantra is to give away free tickets to experience 2 days of the best tribute bands. They want to create the best possible free festival experience, as well as deliver high production values in a fun filled safe way.



1-31 July

The Greater Manchester Fringe Festival will be happening during the whole month of July. This is the 8th year of this annual festival. It is a multi-venue, open access arts festival providing support for all art forms. Ticket prices are kept intentionally low. The purpose of this festival is to encourage artists to show their work, create an arts community, and encourage first time participation in arts production and performance.




3 July

Attention to all adults who still love Lego. The LEGOLAND Discovery Centre will be hosting an adult only night. Adults will have access to the facility from 7-9pm on 3rd July 2019. They hold this event one night monthly. Who doesn’t love some adult time, Legos, and childhood reminiscing? An adult ticket will include: entry to over 2 million bricks, access to all build zones within attraction, Kingdom Quest ride, chat with the Master Model Builders, 4D Cinema experience, adult night discount in the Lego shop and Coffee shop, and more.

The LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is committed to creating a fun experience for all individuals. Every Thursday afternoon from 2pm-6pm, it will be autism friendly and there will be extra trained staff around the attraction. They will turn off the music, limit the sound effects, and make the lighting as standard as possible. All adults must be accompanied by a child and advanced booking is advised. Many of the activities will be open and available for these guests. The parts of the facility that require certain lighting and effects to operate (4D Cinema and Kingdom Quest Ride) will be open but there will be signs and staff fully ready to explain before a family wants to enter this attraction. They will also provide ear defenders if needed. Since there is a limited capacity, booking in advance is advised and all adults must be accompanied by a child.

5 July - 21 July

This summer, they are transforming Albert Square into Festival Square again, however with a different look. There is a range of new structures built for Albert Square where individuals can eat, drink, and enjoy the festival. There will be great food and drink, free live music and DJs, and more. There are four bars, four resident kitchens, four Supper Clubs, and an ice cream wagon. The dates and opening times are 5 July 2019 - 21 July 2019. Admission is always free. Festival is open from noon till late every day.


6-13 July

The Sounds of the City festival will be at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl delivering pop and indie. This is a 6 day festival with 6 different line-ups. The Wombats will be performing 6th July 2019. The Elbow will be performing 9th July 2019. The National will be performing 10th July 2019. Kylie Minogue will be performing 11th July 2019. The Kooks will be performing 12th July 2019. Hacienda Classical will be performing 13th July 2019. Castlefield Bowl is an outdoor, amphitheatre style venue in Manchester. Individuals under 14, must be accompanied by a person over 18. Castlefield Bowl will gladly accommodate for your personal needs, however you need to make a request through a representative if you have a wheelchair/ambulant ticket.

6 July - 7 July

The Tatton Park Stars and Stripes American Car Show UK Event will premier all things American. For the old fashion car lovers, this event will be displaying cars from the 50s, 60s, 70s, & 80s. There will be over 100 memorabilia. You can expect Corvettes, Mustangs, Cadillac’s, hot rods, custom cars, and more. The date of this event is 6 - 7 July 2019 from 9:30-16:00. There are no cash points on site, but entry to the show is payable on the day. An adult ticket is £9, Child (10-15 years old) £6, and children under 10 are free. Also, there is a £7 vehicle park entry for all cars.

13 July - 14 July

Cancer Research UK host a series of events raising money for research in all types of cancer. The meaning of this race, Manchester Race for Life and Pretty Muddy 2019, is to beat cancer, not win a gold medal. Many people walk the 5k, 10k, or Pretty Muddy. The Pretty Muddy is a muddy obstacle course that anyone can take part in. There is either a 5k or 10k obstacle course. This event requires you to climb, crawl, and slide your way to beating cancer. This event is 13 - 14 July 2019. It starts at 10:00 am and ends at 11:00pm. Each event is at different times.




Southampton

6th July- 7th July

The Southampton Thai Festival will be located at Hoglands Park in Southampton. This annual event will be held on Saturday 6th-Sunday 7th July 2019, from 11.00 am - 7.00 pm. This festival is bringing authentic Thai food, entertainment, culture, arts and crafts, activities, and more. There is no age restriction for this event. This festival started in 2007 and has continued to grow. The entry price is £4.

6th July

Noadswood School in Southampton is hosting the popular Waterside Family Fun Day 2019 event on Saturday, 6th July from 12pm-4pm. The entry is free, as well as the activities. Some activities to look forward to are the 86’ inflatable assault course, bouncy castle, inflatable slide, glitter art tattoos, nail painting, live music, prizes, soft play zone, and more. Don’t miss out on this family fun day!
