The Michael Grandage Company returns to the West End with a revival of John Logan’s "Red“, showing at the Wyndham’s Theatre. The production, first opened in 2009, went on to win six Tony Awards and has not lost its power over the decade. "Red“ takes you on an intellectual train ride through the internal conflicts of one of the leading artist, the American abstract expressionist Mark Rothko (Alfred Molina) and his young assistant Ken (Alfred Enoch) working on a lucrative commission for the fancy new Four Seasons hotel in New York. The intense play takes place in Rothko’s Bowery studio in the late 1950s, where the two artist prime a huge blank canvas and start to put rusty-coloured paint on it. The play has long dialogues about the meaning of art and how to interpret it in the right way. But one thing is for sure the dominant colour is RED.
