Strawberries don't grow at Tescos or...Pick Your Own!

Raising children in a big city and making them aware to where our food comes from can sometimes be challenging. One thing we therefore like to do as a family is to leave buzzing London behind for a day and travel to the countryside to one of the many Pick Your Own farms around London to show them where our food actually grows and does come from.

Find here our recommendations for a fun filled (and healthy) day.

At Parkside Farm you can pick all sorts of berries, depending on the season. This year, the picking season will start at the beginning of June with Strawberries and Gooseberries, followed by Raspberries, Currants and Blackberries.

They also grow all sorts of vegetables but these tend to be ready to be picked a bit later in the year.

A firm favourite of ours is Millets Farm centre, close to Oxford. You can easily spend the whole day there as it is not only a Pick Your Own farm with more than 50 different crops to pick but also a great place to entertain children from all ages.

Millets Farm has great restaurants, an indoor play area, an animal walkway, a maze and much more!

A family farm located in the heart of the Chiltern Hills it is now in its fourth generation.

At the farm you can indulge in shopping at the Farm Shop, Pick Your Own, Cafe, Nursery and if you can bear the thought of Christmas at this time of the year keep in mind that they also have a Christmas tree farm during the Christmas season.

There are a few more Pick Your Own Farms which we list below, however we haven't been there ourselves.

Happy berry picking (and eating!) from the FOCUS team!
